The Falls of the James Sierra Club will host the annual Big Yard Sale at University of Richmond this Saturday. The club collects donations and discards from departing UR students, so expect to find a lot of Target lamps and jeans.

8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Millheiser Gym, University of Richmond
Last week, I filmed two segments for NBC12’s More Bang for Your Buck – if you’re new to the site because you saw them, welcome!.
“Tips to make your yard sale successful” I have some strong opinions on yard sale signage, in case you couldn’t tell 🙂
The annual Fall of the James Sierra Club yard sale at University of Richmond is scheduled for this Saturday, May 14, beginning at 8am in the Millhiser Gym.
The Sierra Club collects donations and unwanted items from departing U of R students and faculty and sells them at the yard sale. Items include lots of clothing, dorm-style furniture & appliances, and household accessories. Proceeds benefit the Sierra Club and UR Green.
If you are trying to find dorm furnishings, I suggest going early before they are sold out. If you’re interested in clothing (an abundance of college girl sizes and brands particularly) my recommendation is to go closer to noon to negotiate better prices.
You know, the usual. I’m Austin-bound for a wedding, so I hope everyone enjoys their weekends!
Who can resist a good rummage sale? St. Michael’s Catholic Church (4991 Springfield Rd., Glen Allen) will hold its 7th annual rummage sale from 8 a.m. to noon. Thousands of items (all donated by friends and parishioners) will be for sale including toys, house wares, books, clothing and more. All proceeds will benefit St. John Baptiste Church and community in Haiti.
Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church will be holding a yard sale on Saturday from 7am to noon; proceeds will benefit the restoration of Wilson Hall (7000 Park Ave)
On the hunt for Halloween costumes? Kid-to-Kid Midlothian is holding its costume sale beginning at 10am on Saturday

My little sister is graduating from high school this June,* and I’ve already made a date to take her to this on Saturday morning:
The Big Yard Sale at Milhiser Gym on the University of Richmond campus is sponsored by the Sierra Club’s Falls of the James Group and by UR Green, the UR student environmental group. The sale is open to the public Saturday morning, May 15, beginning at 8 a.m. Parking is available across from the new soccer stadium and south of the Robins Center.
The Sierra Club annually collects cast-offs and donations from students, faculty, and community at the end of the semester, and offers it all for sale in UR’s gym. While there are all varieties of items, the biggest two categories are dorm/college apartment-style furnishings and accessories, and college girl apparel. If you know someone starting college or needing to furnish their first place, I suggest showing up early before all the good stuff is gone. If you’re interested in the latter (women’s clothes), I think going late is a better strategy, when prices are more flexible.** Be prepared to dig through piles and bins.
*Anyone else going to be a freshman at Christopher Newport this fall?
**Last year in the first hour after it opened, I was quoted $3 for a pair of jeans. Which isn’t outrageous, but isn’t yard sale pricing to me, either.

Yard Sale Season really began in earnest last weekend; I saw signs for church yard sales on every street corner. And from my experience reporting on sales last year, May is high season for my most favorite kind: the neighborhood yard sale.
Instead of GPS-ing all over town in search of individual garage sales, or driving aimlessly in hopes of spotting signs, I can make one or two neighborhoods my home base and find all the yard sales I can shop in one morning.
Plus, it also seems that neighborhood yard sales bring out the families that decide the night before their neighborhood sale “Hey, we’ve got some stuff to get rid of” and throw it out un-priced in the yard in the morning. They’re not looking to make money, really just de-clutter = good deals!
So here are a few coming up this weekend:
Wellsley (Short Pump)
Gates Head, Candlewood, Quail Run (Off Pemberton Rd in West End)
Crown Grant subdivision (West End, Silverbrook Dr)
Windsor Place (West End, off of Church Rd and Three Chopt Rd)
North Point Rd (Harbour Pointe Brandermill)
Parson’s Ridge (Beaverdam)
Riverdowns South, Riverdowns North & Queens Grant (off Robious Rd, Midlothian)
Bayhill Pointe (Midlothian)
The Highlands (Chesterfield 23838 – Beach Rd to Nash)
Parrish Creek Ln (Clay Pointe Sub division off of Bailey Bridge Rd)
Mt Vernon Condos (N Hamilton St between Grove & Patterson)
Sherwood Park (Northside – Brookland Pkwy b/w Hermitage & Brook)
Wiltonshire Drive (off Lauderdale Dr., Gayton Ridge subdivision)
Foxhead (Fair Hill Court, Atlee/Hanover)
Keep an eye on Craigslist for more postings!

With apologies to my husband the Cubs fan, I’m much more excited about April ushering in garage sale season than baseball season. (Although I’ll certainly be cheering for the Cubbies Monday!)

Spring Fling at Wine & Beer Westpark – All day sale with tastings from 1-4
Make no excuses this year, and join us in celebrating Spring by letting you hair down. We’ll have terrific specials running down both the beer and wine aisles (how about $5 six packs – on beers that don’t begin with bud, coors, and miller – two for the price of one, and 10% off Belgians, to start!). Oh! The wine deals too – 10-20% off stacks and bins, $30 true Champagnes & Columbia Crest Res Cab, 10% off ½ cases, and 15% mixed cases – I think you’ll be happy with them as well.

Old Navy printable coupon for 50% off one item, in-store. You can either find your own coupon following the directions found in this Slickdeals thread, or print the Slickdeals version because apparently it’s not a unique code. Either way, I’d recommend using it sooner rather than later, because there’s a distinct chance Old Navy will stop accepting them due to inevitable abuse.
Check this post for any updates I find over the weekend!
