National Parks will waive entrance fees this Saturday, September 29, 2012, in honor of Public Lands Day.

    Virginia parks included:
    Appomattox Court House National Historical Park
    Assateague Island National Seashore
    Colonial National Historical Park
    George Washington Memorial Parkway’s Great Falls Park
    Manassas National Battlefield Park
    Petersburg National Battlefield
    Prince William Forest Park
    Shenandoah National Park

While peak fall color hasn’t hit the mountains yet, it could be a great day for a drive through Shenandoah!

Beginning this Saturday for National Parks Week, entrance fees will be waived at over 100 national parks that normally charge them.

The savings continue through April 29. It’s a great time to visit places like Shenandoah National Park or Colonial National Historical Park in Williamsburg.

Bryan Park’s Azalea Garden is open from now until May 15, from sunrise to sunset.

The garden is home to 450,000 azaleas in 50 different varieties! Read more about the azaleas on Friends of Bryan Park website.

The azalea portion of Bryan Park is only open during the spring – you can see it from the interchange of I-95 to I-64 West. It’s a Richmond sight to see if you haven’t yet!

The final Fee Free Days at national parks in 2011 are this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Fees will be waived at the following national parks located in Virginia:

    Appomattox Court House National Historical Park
    Assateague Island National Seashore
    Colonial National Historical Park
    George Washington Memorial Parkway’s Great Falls Park
    Manassas National Battlefield Park
    Petersburg National Battlefield
    Prince William Forest Park
    Shenandoah National Park

Virginia State Parks will also offer free admission on Friday, November 11 (Veterans Day), which includes Chesterfield’s Pocahontas State Park.
