The TCBY on West Broad Street is open and holding a Grand Opening party this Saturday, March 9: The first 3 oz. of your yogurt purchase will be free, as well as a chance to win the Golden Cup – that’s free yogurt for one year (limit 10oz. per day)
Crafty types! You should know about this new organization – Stuff Redux: Richmond Creative Reuse Center that just opened last month.
We promote sustainability, creativity, and community engagement by redistributing discarded material to the community for creative and educational projects. Our vision is to help build a community that values the transformation of materials in Richmond…
When people and businesses around Richmond have items they can longer use they bring them to us! We have 800 sq. ft. of space filled with all sorts of materials perfect for your creative endeavor. We have standard office and craft supplies as well as more unique odds and ends.
Basically, the center collects unwanted supplies and reusable items and sells them inexpensively to creative people to turn into new cool stuff!
It was mentioned in the March issue of Richmond Magazine, which focused on Stuff’s partnership with the VCU medical department to find new lives for (non-contaminated but) discarded medical supplies.
The store also offers workshops and classes. (They even do birthday parties!)
If you have surplus supplies, check the website for more info about what is needed and how to donate. The project is also seeking crowdsource funding if you’d like to make a monetary donation.
Open Friday and Saturday: 11 AM – 5 PM
OR By Appointment
I don’t anticipate visiting anytime soon because I accept I have no will-power to resist stockpiling neat little odds and ends with vague grandiose intentions!
Goodwill is opening a new retail store/donation center in Goochland this Thursday, January 10, 2012, at 9 a.m. There will be hourly door prizes all day.
More info available from GoodwillVirginia.org

I had the opportunity to preview the Kroger Marketplace at Stonebridge yesterday, which opened to the public this morning at 7 a.m.
Check out the photos from my visit in this Facebook album. Apologies for some that are a little dark – I figured out halfway through that my camera settings had switch to “night.”
It’s located near the intersection of Midlothian Turnpike and Chippenham Parkway, on the site where Cloverleaf Mall used to be. There’s a fuel center outside, as well as a number of other surrounding buildings under construction.
Inside, you’ll find a 123,000 square foot space that includes a Starbucks and a new concept to Kroger: the Marketplace. Kroger wants to be a one-stop shop offering expanded selections of items not typically found in grocery stores – you can pick up a KitchenAid mixer, bath towel, and furniture for your living room, and your baby will be set with clothes, car seats and more.
I can’t comment too much on prices – from my brief examination, some of the sale items appeared to be good deals, such as a Hungry Hungry Hippos game at half-price for ~$11.50. All purchases at the store qualify for fuel points that you can use for gas discounts at the Kroger fuel centers.
I had my boys with me in a shopping cart as I looked around, and not looking particularly “media-ish,” I couldn’t go more than a few feet at a time without some poor Kroger employee kindly trying to explain to me that the store wasn’t opening until tomorrow 🙂
Grand opening giveaways, while supplies last each day:
12/5 Heiners Old Fashioned Bread (20 oz)
12/6 4ct Kings Hawaiian Rolls
12/7 Frito Lay Deli Lays (10oz)
12/8 Info 4 Life Medical Information Packs, Pill Reminders
12/9 On the Border Chips
Every Saturday through January 5th, you can also enter to win big prizes like gift cards.
Some of the special prices available through Saturday worth noting (prices only good at Kroger Marketplace store):
If you received a holiday bonus of $15-$35 from spending at least $500 at Kroger stores last month (it will be listed on the bottom of your Kroger receipts), you can redeem it now through 12/22 at the Marketplace location.
Those of you who clip coupons from the Sunday paper probably know the name Harbor Freight Tools – the company seems to have an ad in the coupon inserts almost every week.
Did you know they have stores in Richmond? There’s one on Hull Street (6500 Hull Street Rd) and one just opened in the West End (8093 W Broad St) in the old Books-A-Million space. Sunday’s paper had a coupon for a free 7-function digital multimeter with any purchase, plus a number of other discounts.
Hey Chesterfieldians, there’s a new Goodwill opening in Woodlake:
A new Goodwill retail store will open its doors November 29th at 9 a.m. at 14740 Hull Street Road, Chesterfield, VA 23832…
The new 11,000+ square foot store will include everything from clothing, to electronics, refurbished computer equipment, toys, books, house wares, furniture, and unique home accents. Store hours will be Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Visitors to this new Goodwill store will find many things that are a cut above the thrift store stereotype. Things like:
• A well-appointed store with more of a traditional retail feel, knowledgeable sales staff, a return policy, gift cards, and a frequent donor discount shopping program.
• Competitive pricing with the average cost for adult clothing at $4.99.
• A covered drive-thru donation drop-off area.
• Ever-changing merchandise as Goodwill re-stocks with at least 1,800 new items every day.
• Great giveaways, door prizes, and events during the first 3 days of the store opening.

I don’t have any additional specifics. The store is located in the same shopping center as Kroger, across from Short Pump Town Center.
Several businesses in the new Carytown Place shopping area (remember “Don’t Big Box Carytown”?) are opening this week and next.
