Braved the pre-Christmas Short Pump traffic to check out the newest RVA Goodwill this week

First, where is the Short Pump Goodwill located? At 4200 Tom Leonard Drive, right behind… Tom Leonard’s Farmers Market. (It really doesn’t require much traffic braving to reach because you just turn right at the first traffic light after the ramp from I-64.)

Drive to the back of the parking lot to reach the drive-through donation center. (The parking lot sidewalk doesn’t connect all the way to the drive through, so it might be best to drive through for your donations, if you have them, before parking to shop)

There are two big rooms, the “Home Store” to the right when you enter, with housewares, books, furniture, and electronics:

And the main clothes, shoes, and accessory space:

It’s very spacious, lots of room around the aisles. Pricing is consistent with other area Goodwills ($4.99 for a women’s long-sleeve shirt), and items are sorted by category then color. In the connecting hallway at the back I spotted four dressing rooms, which seems like low capacity for a store this size.

Half-price “color or the week” sales will begin January 18-

goodwill christmas

Facebook fan/like campaigns are all the rage these days; it seems like every company has a numbers goal it’s trying to reach and is offering Facebookers incentives such as coupons, freebies, and giveaways as the carrot for success.

(Richmond businesses with Facebook targets include Qdoba of Central Virginia, Franklin Goose, Vogue Flowers, Chick-fil-A Short Pump Crossing, Chick-fil-A at Chesterfield Plaza. Some goals are more realistic than others.)

Another institution looking for a Facebook bump is Goodwill: If Goodwill Industries of Central Virginia reaches 500 fans by December 31, each person will receive a 20% off coupon good at any store.

At the time of this writing, that means it needs 195 more folks, and I’m hoping a few of you will mosey over to Facebook to show support, either because you want a discount or just because you happen to “like” Goodwill.

Goodwill is a win/win/win organization, collecting unwanted items from the community, selling them to those who want to shop frugally, and using the proceeds to provide job assistance to persons with disabilities and individuals with social and economic disadvantages. Also, Goodwill will be building 6 NEW stores in Henrico/Chesterfield/Chester, as well as its first in Goochland, so liking the page will hopefully help you keep up with the latest news on those!

Also, do you know of any other local companies offering incentives for more people to like them on Facebook?
