Beginning tomorrow night and running through Sunday, Salem Baptist Church in Goochland will host its annual (free) Bethlehem Walk:
Bethlehem Walk returns for its ninth season beginning Wednesday, November 28th. The interactive outdoor drama where guests experience first century Bethlehem continues through Sunday, December 2nd. As you enter the city, allow the sights, sounds and smells to carry you to a period of time that changed the world. Journey through the heart of the city to the marketplace that is bustling with activity from over a dozen authentic shops; enjoy samples from the baker’s shop, see the blacksmith at work making crucifixion nails, marvel at the potter’s crafts and listen for the rumor of a king’s birth from excited townspeople.
Since its inaugural season in 2003, Bethlehem Walk has thrilled and emotionally touched thousands of visitors from across the Commonwealth. Nearly 6,000 travelers toured Bethlehem the first year. Last December, host church Salem Baptist in Crozier, VA partnered with 11 area churches to reach over 13,000 people with this interactive Gospel drama that takes visitors through scenes ranging from the entrance of the Savior into the world to an empty Jewish tomb.
Bethlehem Walk is located at Salem’s Broad Street campus in Goochland County, VA just 6 miles west of Short Pump. The tour is outside and takes approximately 45 minutes. Dress appropriately for the weather. The rough terrain is not suitable for wheelchairs; however we do have “chariots” to accommodate you. Tours are available for the hearing impaired and also in Spanish. Please contact the Salem Baptist Church office at 804-784-4171 for details on these special tour times. Admission is free and parking is available on the property. Shuttle service is provided to and from satellite parking locations. Donations to help defray the costs of construction and maintenance are accepted and Bethlehem Walk T-Shirts will be available for purchase (proceeds go to support construction and maintenance costs) for $15.00.
Bethlehem Walk 2012 is Salem’s holiday “gift” to the community. Many families will take their children to see Santa Claus at the mall this year. Bethlehem Walk is a way to experience the true meaning of Christmas.
Help us Win the Fight Against Hunger in Central Virginia. This year we will be collecting non-perishable food items for our local food bank!

Granted, it’s a little late and a little far for a work/school night, but it sure sounds like fun 🙂
This didn’t make it into the weekend events post because I just saw the sign when I was heading to playgroup yesterday.
Goochland Baptist Church will be holding its second annual “Trucks ‘n Such” event this Saturday, April 28, from 10am-2pm.
We have all sorts of trucks, tractors, antiques, and more for the children and their families to explore, learn about, touch, and even climb into some of the vehicles. Many vehicles will be doing demonstrations. You will see rescue services, dump trucks, tractor trailers, antique cars, tractors, a bucket truck, an Ice cream truck, and much, much more. This event will be fun for the entire family. Everything is FREE (including lunch). Come enjoy the fun!
If your family has enjoyed attending Touch A Truck in the past, this is similar, except on a smaller scale (and free!).
We actually made it to the event last year – there were about half-a-dozen big trucks and some tractors, etc. No crowds, perhaps because it was a chilly day. It took him a little while to warm up to the idea, but eventually my son had a blast checking out and climbing on the vehicles!
