amazing raise 2012

So this has little to do with bargains, but a lot to do with Richmond, and supporting the local organizations that provide wonderful ministries, programs, and events from which our city benefits!

Next Wednesday, September 19, the Amazing Raise kicks off at 6am and runs for 36 hours.

Over $100,000 will be awarded to local non-profits through Give Richmond, and the funds are distributed on the basis of each non-profit mobilizing donors to its cause.

What does it mean to you?

Basically, your donation during the Amazing Raise time period can help your chosen organization(s) receive even more money.

Three Grand Prizes ($20,000, $15,000, and $10,000) will be awarded to organizations that receive the highest number of unique gifts of $50 or more.

Groups are also eligible for the “50/50 Early Bird Challenge” – The first 15 organizations to receive 50 unique gifts of $50 or more will receive a grant prize of $2,500.

There are also NUMEROUS smaller bonus prizes, for categories such as donation made closest to midnight or organization that receives the 10,000th gift in the event. A donation of $25 or more counts for Bonus prize purposes (See all prizes)

In 2011 (the first year) 6,453 gifts totaling $491,245 were given.

This year, it looks like approximately 400 non-profits are registered to participate – see the full list here. I know, that makes it tough! If torn between a few groups, my only thought is to check their Facebook pages or websites to see which ones are actively promoting the Amazing Raise to supporters – they are the ones with a better shot at earning the prizes.

Is there $50 that can be spared from your budget this month for a Richmond organization you think worthwhile? If you normally give around the holidays, could you re-allocate those resources to this time, when your donation has the potential to go even farther for your favorite charity? (I guess that’s my bargain spin on this topic – if you’re going to give, give when you can get the most bang for your buck 🙂 )

I’m not affiliated with the Amazing Raise, Give Richmond, or any participating organization; I just think it’s a great idea!
