About

Welcome to Richmond Bargains, bringing down the cost of living in RVA since 2008! This website features great deals and freebies available at stores/restaurants in the Richmond Metro area, reviews and tips about local bargain resources, and free (or very cheap) events around town.

profile pic I'm Alison, a stay-at-home mom to a preschooler and new baby on the way. I've lived in the West End almost my entire life, graduating from the Center for Leadership, Government, and Global Economics at Freeman High School in 2000. After finishing a degree in Economics at Grove City College in Pennsylvania, I returned to my hometown roots. My husband hails from Oklahoma; we met at our church and have been blessed with seven years of marriage.

I started writing Richmond Bargains in June 2008 because I saw a need for a resource to connect residents with LOCAL money-saving information. If you don't consider yourself a "frugal" person, or you think saving money is just too much work, I'd like to show you some simple ways to do the things you enjoy (eat, shop, play, LIVE) while spending less!

I always appreciate help from wonderful area readers with the scoop on store opening sales, store closing sales, store special sales, store clearance sales, restaurant specials ... pretty much any kind of sale or deal in the metro area. I also try to spotlight free (or <$5) events around town. I'd love to hear from you - If you've got the bargain skinny, please email me at richmondbargains at gmail dot com.

Likewise, if you have a question, would like some help finding a deal, or would be interested in writing a guest post, please let me know
