Heads up: this weekend, September 24-25, is Time Travelers Passport Weekend in Richmond:

Tourists and locals alike are invited to discover the area’s treasures, spanning 400 years of fascinating history. Fourteen participating sites – Agecroft Hall, Chesterfield County Museum & Historic Jail, Chimborazo Medical Museum, Dabbs House Museum, The John Marshall House, Maggie Walker National Historic Site, Magnolia Grange House Museum, Maymont, Meadow Farm Museum, White House of the Confederacy (ACWM), Edgar Allan Poe Museum, The Valentine & 1812 Wickham House, The Valentine First Freedom Center and Wilton House Museum – will offer complimentary admission to visitors who show a Time Travelers Passport available via download here.

You can show the passport on your phone or print a hardcopy.

When is Museum Day?
If you’d like to venture out of town this weekend, Saturday, September 24 is Smithsonian’s “Museum Day Live”, when participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provide entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day Live! ticket. The ticket provides free admission for two people; you can find a list of participating Virginia museums here.

And if you’re in the mood to get outside instead, it just so happens that this Saturday is also National Public Lands Day, which means free admission to any national park!

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will host Genworth Free Community Day on Labor Day, Monday, September 5. All visitors to the Garden receive free admission 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Regular admission is $8-$13)

The free admission includes one of the last chances to see the award-winning Nature Connects®: Art with LEGO® Bricks exhibit which ends September 18. A record number of people have visited the Garden to see these sculptures created with half-a-million LEGO bricks. Free admission also includes entrance to the popular Butterflies LIVE! exhibit and for players of Pokemon Go, the Garden will be purchasing lures to increase the number of Pokemon at the Garden on Labor Day. The Garden is also partnering with the Lakeside Business Association as a collection site on this day for donations of school supplies benefiting Lakeside Elementary School

Other Labor Day weekend events: Richmond Jazz Band concert at Pocahontas State Park ($7 parking), First Fridays Art Walk on Broad, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory at The Byrd ($2), Hanover Food Truck Carnival at Harley Davidson, Batman vs Superman at Henrico Theatre ($1), and Open Studio Sunday and First Friday concert at VMFA.

This weekend: Opera in the Park at Dogwood Dell, PrepareAthon at the Science Museum (free admission), final Rock and Roll Summer Concert at West Broad Village, Richmond Roots Festival at Hardywood, Classics in the Courtyard: Rear Window at First Baptist Church, and Central Virginia Food Truck Rodeo at Chesterfield Town Center.

Also, there’s a Henrico Concert Band Concert next Monday at Dorey Park, and a reminder that it’s free entrance weekend at national parks.
