Here’s how this weekend is shaping up: Court End Christmas spread across a number of downtown sites, James River Parade of Lights at several viewing locations (Henrico, Chesterfield, and Libby Hill Park in Richmond), Sir Dale’s Colonial Christmas at Henricus Historical Park, Yuletides at Agecroft at Agecroft Hall, Chester Christmas Parade in Chester, Holiday Open House at Pine Camp, and a Holiday Candle Walk through Church Hill.

There’s Downtown Grand Illumination at the James Center, Holiday Illumination Party at Main Street Station, Enchanted Garden Illumination at the Poe Museum, Dominion Christmas Parade along Broad Street, Present Factory at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, Old-Fashioned Christmas at Maymont (fee for house tours & carriage rides), Tree Lighting at the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, “Home for the Holidays” performance at Huguenot High School, Light Up the Tracks in Ashland, Handmade Holiday at Hardywood, Victorian Christmas Carol Holiday Open House at Magnolia Grange, and Festival of Lessons & Carols at UR’s Cannon Memorial Chapel.

Heads up: this weekend, September 24-25, is Time Travelers Passport Weekend in Richmond:

Tourists and locals alike are invited to discover the area’s treasures, spanning 400 years of fascinating history. Fourteen participating sites – Agecroft Hall, Chesterfield County Museum & Historic Jail, Chimborazo Medical Museum, Dabbs House Museum, The John Marshall House, Maggie Walker National Historic Site, Magnolia Grange House Museum, Maymont, Meadow Farm Museum, White House of the Confederacy (ACWM), Edgar Allan Poe Museum, The Valentine & 1812 Wickham House, The Valentine First Freedom Center and Wilton House Museum – will offer complimentary admission to visitors who show a Time Travelers Passport available via download here.

You can show the passport on your phone or print a hardcopy.

When is Museum Day?
If you’d like to venture out of town this weekend, Saturday, September 24 is Smithsonian’s “Museum Day Live”, when participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provide entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day Live! ticket. The ticket provides free admission for two people; you can find a list of participating Virginia museums here.

And if you’re in the mood to get outside instead, it just so happens that this Saturday is also National Public Lands Day, which means free admission to any national park!
