There’s a concerning story about Entertainment Book coupons on Richmond.com:
“Restaurant Owner Warns Customers Not to Buy ‘Fake’ Coupon”
Kendra Feather, who owns several local restaurants including Garnett’s, discovered that Entertainment had an unauthorized “buy one menu item, get one free” printable coupon for Garnett’s Cafe on its website. When she contacted Entertainment, she was shown the contract “she” had signed – but the name signed appears to be “Candra Sether.”
Entertainment is apologetic and investigating the matter, and said the coupon is being removed from the site (it was still available at 8:12 p.m. last night, as you can see by my phone screen shot above). This is not in the 2014 books, just online.
While this is the exception, not the rule, it’s a good reminder why it’s important to mention the coupon you plan on using at the beginning of a meal! I have heard similar issues with Restaurant.com, that restaurants who at one time agreed to be listed on the site were unable to get their coupons removed later.
For Cyber Monday, all Entertainment Book coupon books are on sale for $20 with free shipping. Additional books are just $15. (Valid 12/02/2013 12:00am EST – 12/04/2013 9:00 AM EST)
The cash back website Ebates is offering 45% cash back on Entertainment.com purchases – $20-$9 (45% cash back) = only $11 net cost. This is generally close to the lowest price on these until spring.
Congrats to Angela for winning the Goodwill gift card giveaway!
If you didn’t win but are doing back-to-school shopping – Goodwill just released a coupon for 10% off any purchase of $20 or more – click here.

An update to the Entertainment.com bankruptcy I posted about last month – Entertainment sent me the following press release, the gist of which is that there will still be Entertainment books! (and let the company know if you have any trouble redeeming coupons):
The acquisition by HSP-EPI Acquisitions, LLC, took place after Entertainment filed a chapter 7 bankruptcy petition on March 12, 2013, but then resumed operations on March 27, 2013, due to interest from investors like Potiker. On April 23, 2013, the transition of Entertainment to HSP-EPI Acquisitions, LLC was completed…
The company has re-hired many employees and is looking to reinstate the majority of its workforce over the next few weeks.
The team will release the 2014 Entertainment Books this year on schedule. Current products in the market, such as the 2013 Entertainment Book Membership or other savings membership programs, are still valid through the expiration date printed or displayed on them. This includes the ability for consumers to purchase books on Entertainment.com as well as print coupons from the online website. Additionally, the company’s merchant redemption guarantee remains in effect. [emphasis added]
“The chapter 7 filing was a difficult time for our employees, business partners and consumers,” says Potiker. “It is unfortunate that despite delivering products to millions of consumers each year, the bankruptcy filing occurred not due to any issue related to company sales, but due to shareholder financing at the ownership level. Thankfully, with the help of the bankruptcy court, we were able to move quickly to resume operations. Now with the acquisition complete, we can not only continue on with our business, but move aggressively with our growth plans to support both our core business and ongoing expansion into the digital space.”
Kroger Mid-Atlantic announced on Facebook yesterday that it would be discontinuing its double coupon program, effective May 12. (Currently it doubles the value of manufacturer’s coupons up to $.50 face value)
Statement from Kroger:
Due to shifts in our family’s eating habits and my couponing habits, we’ve been utilizing fewer double coupons lately, but I know it comes as a blow to many grocery budgets (as evidenced by the 300+ mostly upset comments on Facebook).
