lewis ginter gardenfest 2015
Dominion GardenFest of Lights at Lewis Ginter returns this Friday (Nov 27) and runs through January 11, 2016. I have a chance for you to win tickets at the bottom of this post!

    Nov. 27, 2015 – Jan. 11, 2016. (Closed Dec. 24 & 25) Nightly 5 – 10 p.m.

“A holiday tradition featuring more than half-a-million twinkling lights, hand-crafted botanical decorations, model trains, holiday dinners, firepit with s’mores and hot chocolate (for purchase); nightly family activities & more. The region’s ultimate holiday extravaganza!

This year’s “H2Whoa” theme showcases water in all its forms. Experience a dazzling 30-acre light and botanical display highlighting some of the many ways water surrounds us and shapes the world in which we live. Explore magical, whimsical re-imaginings of everyday water events. Stroll through twinkling “rainstorms” as crystal rain drops and fluffy storm clouds float overhead. Participate in a thunderstorm of lights! As the storm clears walk through a 75-foot rainbow of light to the warm yellow Rose Garden where our peacock dries its feathers. Dive into deep blue pools surrounded by glowing ocean life. Enjoy a dinner in the Tea House surrounded by a snow covered landscape dripping with ice. Make your way down the Rainbow Road beside a river of light. Dry off at the Warming Fire as you treat yourself to hot chocolate and s’mores, and then find your way through our maze of lights.

Indoors you can follow fish in a river to learn more about water and how to help improve our own waterways. Experience gorgeous botanical exhibits inspired by bog gardens and ocean life and enjoy multiple train displays. Step into the Conservatory to explore the ocean’s floor, discover a wintry wonderland, find rainstorms and rainbows, and visit a tropical rainforest.”

empty gas tank filling up at kroger

Admit it, who else plays “chicken” with their fuel tanks, getting as close to empty as possible so you save the most with your fuel points? I took the above “empty” photo last March when I rolled into a Kroger station for a fill-up. I’ve been seeing a lot of friends’ photos of sub-$1 a gallon fillups lately!

Quick recap of ways to earn Fuel Points at Kroger (100 points = $.10 off per gallon):
– 1 fuel point for every $1 in groceries purchased, redeemable in nearly all supermarket fuel centers and convenience store locations.
– Most gift cards earn double points every day – for every purchase of $50 in gift cards from Kroger’s Gift Card Mall, customers receive 100 fuel points. Customers can also earn double fuel points on No-Contract Wireless Phones and Airtime Cards.
– Every qualifying prescription earns customers 50 fuel points.
– Participate in Kroger’s Customer 1st Surveys and earn 50 fuel points

What’s better than cheap gas? Free gas, of course. If you’re going to be showing off your savings, you might as well enter to win $200 in free gas at the same time!

#fuelpointssweeps

From Kroger:

“With parts of the country offering low fuel prices, it’s finally time for the country to take a sigh of relief. As a way to celebrate and soak up these times, Kroger is running a contest until February 21, 2015 on social media platforms – Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – that encourages shoppers to use the #FuelPointsSweeps hashtag when posting a photo of them getting fuel at any Kroger fuel center. Forty-four (44)* winners will be randomly selected to win one month of free fuel at a Kroger fuel center (a $200 value). Official rules can be found here. Winners will be announced on Kroger’s official social media pages, which are the following:

    · Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Kroger (Comment with the photo, tag Kroger and use the #FuelPointsSweeps hashtag)

    · Instagram: http://instagram.com/krogerco (Post a photo, tag @krogerco and use the #FuelPointsSweeps hashtag)

    · Twitter: https://twitter.com/kroger (Post a photo, tag @kroger and use the #FuelPointsSweeps hashtag)

You can enter once during each of the remaining three contest periods:
February 1, 2015 at 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time (EST) – February 7, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. (EST)
February 8, 2015 at 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time (EST) – February 14, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. (EST)
February 15, 2015 at 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time (EST) – February 21, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. (EST)

And you’ve got another chance to be a winner: To get the word out about Fuel Points Sweeps,

Kroger is offering Richmond Bargains readers a chance to win a $50 Kroger gift card!

(You don’t need to enter the Kroger Fuel Sweeps to enter this) Just enter your name and email in the Rafflecopter widget below to be eligible:

Terms & conditions: One entry per person. Deadline is February 21, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. EST. One (1) winner will be selected at random and notified via email. Winner will have 48 hours to respond with his/her mailing address, otherwise a new winner will be selected. Kroger is providing and fulfilling the prize; I received no compensation for this post.

* Alison’s note about number of winners: I believe 44 is the total across the whole group of 11 Kroger brands (like Dillons, Frys, etc.) Out of folks that shop at Kroger, like us, there will be 4 winners, one each contest period.

MARTIN’S sent me some of the items to try out, and $20 towards the ones they couldn’t mail (ice cream!). I’ll share some of my comparisons on Facebook this week and next; can you guess which of the chewy bars below is GIANT and which is Quaker?*

martin's granola bars

I thought the Quaker bar had a little more depth of flavor and was a little softer, but the GIANT was pretty close (and came with an extra two bars per box!)

The reason I decided to participate in this campaign is that it came with a *$25 MARTIN’S gift card* to give away to one of you to try your own Martin’s items!

Yesterday, the Richmond Bargains Facebook page hit the 4,000 fan mark!

Also, I forgot to celebrate the five-year anniversary of this blog in June – I’ve been blogging about deals in Richmond for 5 whole years! In the process I’ve met some great folks and learned a ton about my hometown and blogging.

Two big occasions definitely deserve to be observed with a giveaway. I tried to think of something that would be local, bargain-related, and easily accessible for anyone in Richmond, and settled on a Goodwill gift card.

goodwill

So here it is: enter to win a $20 gift card for Goodwill Central Virginia! Enter your email address in the Rafflecopter giveaway widget below (or visit this page to enter if you can’t view the widget).

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Thank you everyone!!!

You may have to enter your email twice – once to establish your identity and once to enter. Ends Monday, August 12 at 11:59pm EDT. One entry per person. 1 Winner will be selected at random, will be notified by email, and have 48 hours to respond with mailing address. Goodwill is not sponsoring or affiliated with this giveaway.

P.S. The only way RVA-ers find this site is through search engines or word-of-mouth, so if you’ve found it helpful, would you consider telling a friend? I appreciate it!
