FRIDAY
UR International Film Series: Clowns (I Clowns) – Friday 3pm & 7:30pm; Ukrop Auditorium, Robins School of Business, University of Richmond
Italy, 1970, directed by Federico Fellini. 92 min., Rated G. In his made for TV film, Frederico Fellini’s The Clowns is a pseudo-documentary that pays heartfelt tribute to clowns, pokes fun at everyone, including himself, and spoofs documentaries. The film reflects on the tumultuous nature of the filmmaker, whose mood swings very from jubilation to melancholy over the passing of an era when clowns were respected all over the world. It’s an easy film to be drawn to: the visuals are pure Fellini-esque; the story is accessible; and the closing message leaves the viewer with the notion that we must be our own clowns in this much too serious world.

This deal was my husband’s idea. We are dark-chocolate lovers, and he recently suggested heading to For the Love of Chocolate in Carytown to get our fix… then added, “Maybe we should wait until after Valentine’s Day.” Smart man.
Since he had Presidents Day off from work, we braved the slush to visit Cary Court and redeem our Smoothie King Living Social gift card before checking out FTLOC. This was the sign that greeted us just inside the door:
::drool::
We were greeted by a surprisingly large selection of red heart-themed chocolate, all a whopping 90% off. So for under eleven bucks we acquired these bad boys:
1 canister of Dove dark chocolates, 2 bags of raspberry filled dark chocolate, 4 dark chocolate hearts, 2 oversized lollipops, and the piece de resistance, a tin filled with 36 Godiva chocolates and truffles.
Original price on the Godiva tin was $65! (!) (heart attack). I love chocolate as much as the next girl, but really hoping no one paid that much for a Valentine’s Day present.
Wallet win, waistline lose (or gain..)
But dark chocolate is the healthy kind, right?
I was sorely tempted to buy the whole inventory to save for “presents” but I’m valiantly trying to reform my hoarding ways and, let’s be honest, none of that chocolate would have ever made it out of the house.

Fat Tuesday is tomorrow, February 21!
The Hills and Heights neighborhood churches (Forest Hill Presbyterian, Good Shepherd Episcopal, Westover Hills United Methodist, Bethany Christian, Westover Baptist, and Woodland Heights Baptist) are sponsoring a Fat Tuesday celebration and parade tomorrow evening at Good Shepherd Episcopal and Forest Hill Presbyterian. Pancakes will be served at Good Shepherd starting at 5 pm (with donations accepted). At 6:30 pm, members of Richmond’s own No BS! Brass band will lead a short parade down Springhill Avenue from Good Shepherd to Forest Hill Presbyterian, where they’ll continue to play in the church social hall.
(via Hills & Heights)
Dogtown Dance Theatre will also have Mardi Gras Parade and Performances for $10 (Parade at 5:30pm, performances at 8pm; I would anticipate that it would be free to watch the parade)
