Are you making full use of your library? We borrow plenty of books and movies, but I know I don’t come close to utilizing the full spectrum of library offerings. Today I want to highlight a few of the fabulous digital options that are open to Henrico County Public Library cardholders (for free of course!)

eBooks and audiobooks through OverDrive – Most of my book reading is done on my phone’s Kindle app these days. By investing a little time into creating my Overdrive account and learning the navigation, I save myself trips to the library or paying for content. You can place holds on the ebooks you want if they are currently checked out, and the library will notify you when they’re available. You also don’t have to worry about late fees; your checkout automatically expires after two weeks. Check out the library’s ebook help page or call you local branch with questions. There’s also Freading ebooks (independent publishers) and Tumblebooks (for kids)

Digital Magazines through Zinio – Options include Better Homes & Gardens, bon appetit, Car & Driver, Cosmopolitan, dwell, The Economist, Everyday with Rachel Ray, Family Fun, National Geographic, and many more.

Research Databases – Sounds boring right? But not. You can access Consumer Reports, Rosetta Stone (level 1 for 30 languages), Richmond Times-Dispatch, World Book Online and others all for free

*Any resident of Henrico, Richmond or Chesterfield may register for a Henrico County Library card – more info here.*

I happen to be most familiar with Henrico’s digital offerings, but other counties have them as well. For example:

Chesterfield County Library ebooks: Overdrive, Freading, Zinio magazines, etc.
Richmond Public Library ebooks on Overdrive
