Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens “Dominion GardenFest of Lights” returns for another bright season starting tonight, November 23!

A holiday tradition featuring more than half-a-million twinkling lights, hand-crafted botanical decorations, model trains, holiday dinners, family activities and more… This year’s
“East Meets West” theme showcases the rich array of plants and decorative arts of Eastern cultures that have influenced our Western traditions

Discounts available for the 2012 Garden Fest season:

The following coupons will be available during GardenFest. They are not valid in combination with any other offers. (Please note the Garden’s AAA discount does not apply for GardenFest because GardenFest is considered a special ticketed event.)

Richmond Times-Dispatch Press Pass– Visitors can present the press pass coupon and get a “buy one, get one free” ticket (adult, senior, child & member) on select nights only. Coupon must be presented at the Garden’s Visitors Center for discount, no photocopies accepted, no other discounts apply, one free admission per coupon. “Free” ticket must be equal or lesser value.
Press pass coupon runs in Thursday Weekend section; is good for the following Sunday ONLY on these dates ONLY:
Runs: Thursday, Nov. 22; VALID Sunday, Nov. 25
Runs: Thursday, Nov. 29; VALID Sunday, Dec. 2
Runs: Thursday, Dec. 6; VALID Sunday, Dec. 9

Valpak – Visitors can present the Metro Richmond area ValPak coupon and receive $3 off one GardenFest ticket (adult, senior, child; does not apply to members). Good Nov. 30 – Dec. 6, 2012. Offer valid with coupon only. One coupon per person. May not be used in combination with any other discounts including member discounts. No photocopies.

Garden members receive free admission on the following nights: Nov. 26, 27, 28 & Jan. 7. The Historic Bloemendaal House will be open those evenings with live music 6 – 7:30 p.m. On other days, GardenFest admission for members is $5 for adults and $4 for kids ages 3-18.     Dominion GardenFest of Lights Illumination Ceremony
    Friday, Nov. 23
    Doors open 5 p.m.; ceremony and entertainment 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
    Join the GardenKeeper as we kick off the start of Dominion GardenFest of Lights! Celebrate this year’s East Meets West theme with entertainment by the River City Taiko drummers and a show by the Jow Ga Kuen Lion Dance Team.

    Dominion GardenFest for Fidos
    Select Thursdays, Nov. 29 & Jan. 3
    Leashed pets allowed; suggested $2 pet admission benefits the Richmond SPCA.

    Greater Richmond Children’s Choir
    Sunday, Dec. 16; 4 – 6 p.m.
    Included with regular GardenFest admission
    Special performance for visitors’ enjoyment.

    New Year’s Eve Family Frolic
    Monday, Dec. 31; 2 – 5 p.m.
    Family fun with live music plus make-and-take crafts. Those who attend the New Year’s Eve Family Frolic and who are already in the Garden can stay to attend Dominion GardenFest of Lights.

    Merry Mondays: Nov. 26, Dec. 3, 10, 17, 31, Jan. 7 – 5 – 8 p.m.
    Location: Library Reading Room; Santa “sightings” in the Conservatory on Mondays through Dec. 17
    Storytime fireside with the Garden Keeper and visits from the Butterfly Fairy.

    Caroling Tuesdays: Nov. 27, Dec. 4, 11, 18 & Jan. 1 – 6 – 7:30 p.m.
    Location: Throughout the Garden
    Barbershop Quartets stroll and sing. You can join in the fun, too!

    Crafty Wednesdays: Nov. 28, Dec. 5, 12, 19, 26 & Jan. 2 – 5 – 8 p.m.
    Location: Education and Library Complex, Classroom 1 (across from the train room) Families can join Garden staff and volunteers to make Asian-inspired crafts. Projects include origami (Dec. 5 & 26), miniature kites (Dec. 12 & Jan. 5), and lanterns (Nov. 28 & Dec. 19).

    Musical Thursdays: Nov. 29, Dec. 6, 13, 20, 27 & Jan. 3 – 6 p.m. & 7 p.m.
    Location: Library
    Acoustic musicians perform festive entertainment.
