virginia historical society

Looking for free INDOOR outings in August? Enjoy free activities each afternoon at the Virginia Historical Society this month:

Beginning Wednesday, August 1, and continuing until Friday, August 31, the Virginia Historical Society will offer families the opportunity to participate in educator-led programs, craft activities, and group readings of historically-themed books. All programs are free and open to the public. Advance reservations are not required. August Afternoons takes place from 2:00-4:00 p.m. daily in the Marcus and Carole M. Weinstein Education Classroom.

We attended the Family Open House a few weeks ago, and thought “The Story of Virginia, an American Experience” exhibit was well worth a browse with kids –

This multi-gallery exhibition covers 16,000 years of Virginia history from prehistoric times to the present. It features a dugout canoe, a Conestoga wagon, a street car, and the largest collection of Virginia artifacts on long-term display.

VHS admission is always free!
