New State ID Card Makes It Easier for Veterans to Get Discounts

va veterans id card

Virginia has introduced a state-issued veterans ID card

The IDs, available through the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, will help veterans obtain discounts at stores and restaurants, among other things. The plastic cards feature the veteran’s name, date of discharge and branch of service.

They are wallet-sized, never expire and cost $10. Applicants will be given a temporary ID until the actual card arrives in the mail.

From the Richmond Times-Dispatch

Here is a list of businesses specifically partnering to offer discounts (includes Daylight Donuts, Moe’s, Saxon Shoes), though I expect that *most* places offering military discounts in the state would accept this as proof as well.

To apply:

DMV customer service centers (download the application)
    DMV 2 Go mobile offices
    U.S. mail: P.O. Box 27412, Richmond, VA 23269-0001
    Fax: (804) 367-1112
You must have a valid Virginia driver’s license or identification card. You will also need a copy of your DD-214.
