First Fridays: Happy Lucky Combo – Friday 6-8pm; Best Cafe & Atrium, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
“A café, a cabaret, a carnival”, Happy Lucky Combo is World Music Southern Style with Barry Bless, Pippin Barnett and Dave Yohe. This exuberant musical trio of accordion, stand-up bass and drums – inspired by tango, klezmer, zydeco, oriental, and the blues – plays sounds that have filled rooms and streets for generations.

Cinema Classics: The Absent-Minded Professor ($1) – Friday 7pm; Henrico Theatre

Monument Avenue 10k – Saturday beginning at 8am; Monument Avenue
Non-runners can cheer along the racecourse (and make signs at party stops – see website), listen to bands scattered along the route, and attend the post-race festival in Monroe park. There will be 40,000 runners!

Chesterfield County Confederate History & Heritage Program – Saturday 12-3pm; Historic 1917 Courthouse, 6807 Mimms Loop, Chesterfield
The Chesterfield Historical Society will present an educational program on Confederate history and heritage, including speakers, living history, exhibits, banjo and fiddle music, and cannon firing

Richmond Concert Band: An Afternoon at the Museum – Saturday 2-3pm; Science Museum of Virginia
Saturday afternoon is the perfect time to kick back and enjoy the Richmond Concert Band with its own brand of symphonic music and this special performance. Free.

Sheep Shearing – Saturday 1-3pm; Meadow Farm Museum
For all ages. It is shearing time, and Meadow Farm is using historic hand shears on their herd of Gulf Coast Native sheep. Come watch the process and learn more about this rare breed and how their wool was used. Information: Anna Truong, 501-2130.

Open Studio – Sunday 1-4pm; Art Education Center, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
Stop by the Art Education Center every first Sunday of the month for a free do-it-yourself art project inspired by works from VMFA’s world-renown collection. (Projects will vary based on available supplies.)

Kite Day – Sunday 1-4pm; Clover Hill Athletic Complex, 17701 Genito Rd
