The new Short Pump Kroger will be opening tomorrow at 7am sharp, with ribbon cutting ceremony at 9am!

I had the chance to take another preview tour this morning, as the store was buzzing with final touches being prepared for tomorrow’s opening. As you can see from the photos, it’s a beautiful (& enormous) place with a lot of neat features.

A few of the items of interest:

The greatly expanded prepared food section (as Trevor Dickerson noted, giving Martin’s/Ukrop’s Cafe a run for its money), which will have its own checkout and seating area with wi-fi. Each weekday, the hot bar will feature a different theme, such as mexican, italian, and barbeque, in addition to some Asian options.

There will also be a Seattle’s Best coffee shop, cheese shop, olive bar, gelato display, and Grillmaster station, where customers will be able to purchase custom-seasoned meat grilled to order.

The nearby Nature’s Market offers bulk bins and freshly ground peanut or cashew butter.

And of course, there’s the fancy wine bar, which will offer tastings, wine/food pairing classes, and wine for purchase by the glass (You can buy a 1oz tasting, 2.5oz half-glass, or 5oz glass. Prices vary by wine). My favorite aspect was the 90/20 section of the “open cellar,” featuring bottles rated 90 points or higher all costing less than $20.
