Friday Cheers, 6:30-9:30pm (Brown’s Island) – Lee Brice with Puddleduck. $2 admission fee for ages 13 and over (new this year)

First Fridays Artwalk, 5-10pm (Historic Broad Street, east of Belvidere St and into Historic Jackson & Monroe Wards) – Monthly event showcasing over 30 diverse small businesses, working studios, and cultural organizations

First Friday Concert, 7pm (Montpelier Center for Arts & Education, 17205 Mountain Rd, Montpelier) – Enjoy local bluegrass music from the West Hanover Boys

Operation Cow Drop, 11am-3pm (Hanover Airport, 1152 Airpark Rd, Ashland) – Chick-fil-A will drop the numbered Chick-fil-A Mini Plush Cows, with a parachute attached, out of an airplane at the Hanover Airport during an “Operation Cow Drop” Family Fun Event. The cows that come closest to a target will win fabulous prizes! In addition to the “Cow Drop”, families will have the opportunity to enjoy children’s activities, entertainment, booths & exhibits, Chick-fil-A food and so much more! This year’s event will also feature a musical performance by Silly Bus.

Strawberry Street Festival, 12-4:30pm (William Fox Elementary School, 2300 Hanover Ave) – Games, rides, great food, exciting music, fabulous prizes, terrific art, and as always the super delicious strawberries. Free admission, $ for activities & food.

SUNDAY MAY 9 – Mother’s Day!

Mother’s Day Open Gardens and Concert, 12:30-5pm & 6pm (Agecroft Hall, 4305 Sulgrave Rd) – Agecroft Hall will open its gardens to the public free-of-charge, 12:30 pm to 5 pm. Enjoy an afternoon of leisure together with your family on the grounds overlooking the James River. In addition, there will be a free evening concert on Agecroft’s lawn featuring the Richmond Concert Band, beginning at 6:00 pm. Picnics, lawn chairs, and blankets are welcome at the concert. If you’re looking for a small-child-friendly Mother’s Day outing, I highly recommend the outdoor concerts at Agecroft! The setting is beautiful, and there is lots of grassy space for kids to run without disturbing anyone

Mother’s Day Concert, 2:30pm (Ginter Park Presbyterian Church, 3601 Seminary Ave) – Concert by the City Singers Choirs of Richmond, the Virginia Benefit Chorale, and other guest musicians (donations welcome)

Spring Concert, 4pm (VCU Siegel Center, 1200 W Broad St) – Richmond Philharmonic performs, suggested donation $5 per person/$10 per family
