Henrico County Parks & Rec Summer Schedule Now Available

It’s like Christmas in May!

OK, maybe just for me. But I hope Henrico residents appreciate what a blessing it is to have so many fun, free & cheap activities available nearby. Of course, you don’t have to be a Henrico resident to take advantage of them 🙂

The Summer 2009 edition of “At Your Leisure” can now be found at county libraries and area grocery stores, or you can view it online. There are enough events to keep me busy updating the Calendar for a week or two!

This summer holds lots of free concerts, classic festivals like the Old-Fashioned Fourth of July at Crump Park, and Pirate Day:

August 15, Deep Run Park
AHOY MATEY! It’s a Pirate’s Paradise!
For all ages. SHIVER ME TIMBERS! It’s a pirate’s life for me! Enjoy a day of everything pirate at Deep Run Park. Be prepared to walk the plank, venture on a treasure hunt to search for pirate’s treasure, get an airbrush tattoo, have your face painted, make pirate crafts, or maybe even meet Blackbeard himself! Bring the kids in their best pirate attire for costume contests and games. Get ready for life on the high seas with authentic pirate tunes and sea chanteys performed by The Press Gang. You won’t want to miss this pirate-themed day of fun! Concessions will be available for purchase.

Walk-in registration for events starts May 30, and online registration opens June 1. Many of the main events don’t require it, but some of the smaller ones fill up fast! There’s a symbol in the book designating events with registration.

Not to slight other counties, you can find the same program information for Chesterfield, Hanover, and Richmond (only covers through June).
